The SI-100C is the entry point into the Senko fixed range. It is an explosion proof transmitter with a 4-20mA output and no local display, designed to report to a controller or a building system somewhere else.
When no display is the right answer
A detector with a display is only useful if somebody is standing in front of it. In a mechanical room, a compressor room or a pit that nobody occupies, the reading needs to arrive where the people are. The SI-100C is built for that architecture: the detector sits at the gas, and the display, the alarm and the relay logic sit at the controller.
If you need a reading at the detector itself, because a technician works at that location or because the sensor is in an occupied space, use the SI-200E.

Catalytic or infrared
For combustible gas you have a choice. A catalytic bead sensor burns the sample and measures the heat, which makes it accurate across a wide range of hydrocarbons but also means it can be poisoned by silicones and sulfur compounds, and it will not read correctly in an oxygen deficient atmosphere because it needs oxygen to burn. An infrared sensor measures absorption instead. It cannot be poisoned, it works without oxygen, and it fails obviously rather than quietly. Infrared costs more. In a clean environment with a known gas, catalytic is usually the right economics. Where silicone, sulfur or low oxygen are present, infrared is the sensor that will still be right in a year.
