Who rents these

Crews whose hazard is known, constant and one thing. The two we send out most are hydrogen sulfide, for wastewater work and sour service, and carbon monoxide, for work around engine exhaust and combustion equipment.

They are cheap enough to put one on every person on the crew, which is the point of them. Hydrogen sulfide in particular destroys your sense of smell at roughly the concentration where it becomes dangerous, so the crew member who says the smell has gone is not telling you the air has cleared. An instrument does not become anosmic.

What it will not do

A single gas monitor is the wrong instrument for entering anything. A confined space can hold oxygen deficiency, combustibles and toxics in any combination, and a single gas monitor is silent about the other two. That is a four gas job at minimum, and the pre entry test needs a pump. See the MGT four gas rental and gas monitoring for confined space entry.

What arrives

  • Senko SGT sealed single gas monitor, ordered for hydrogen sulfide or carbon monoxide. Tell us which when you reserve.
  • Audible, visual and vibrating alarm
  • Calibrated and bump tested before it ships, with the record in the box

Alarm points are set to the limits that apply where your crew is standing. California sets hydrogen sulfide at a 10 ppm ceiling and carbon monoxide at 25 ppm, both roughly half the federal numbers, and instruments do not arrive from the factory configured for California. Tell us where the work is.

Buying instead

The same instrument is on the Senko SGT catalogue page, with every gas option and current pricing. The serviceable version with a replaceable sensor and battery is the SGT-P.

The people handing you the equipment are the same people who write confined space programs and train crews for a living. If you are not sure which instrument fits the job, ask. The advice comes with the rental.
