This online course covers the training the Cal/OSHA asbestos in construction rule requires for Class IV and housekeeping work (8 CCR 1529(k)(9), with 40 CFR 763.92(a)(1)) and is written at the Authorized User level.
What you learn
- What asbestos is and where you find it
- What asbestos does to your body
- Class I to IV: what you may do and what you may not
- Presumed asbestos: PACM and old flooring
- Who must tell you where asbestos is
- Spotting damage and fiber releases
- Housekeeping and Class IV cleanup
- Regulated areas, signs and labels
- Exposure limits, respirators, medical exams and records
- California rules: registration, certification and licenses
- A final lesson listing what to review with your supervisor at your company
How it works
- You take the course online, at your own pace, on a phone or a computer.
- Class IV training must be at least 2 hours (40 CFR 763.92(a)(1)). Four timed study units hold the course to at least 2 hours.
- This course does not train you for Class I, II or III asbestos work, and it is not the certified training California requires for registered asbestos work.
- Each topic lesson ends with practice questions that do not count toward your score.
- The final exam has 25 questions drawn at random. You need 80 percent to pass, and you get 3 attempts.
- When you pass, you get a certificate of completion from M Squared Safety Solutions, Inc. The certificate expires 1 year after it is issued.
- This course is also available in Spanish: Concientización sobre el asbesto, clase IV y limpieza (Cal/OSHA): capacitación en línea.

Your employer's part
This online course does not replace the training your employer must give on your own job: site-specific training, and hands-on practice and evaluation where the rule requires them.
