Your employer's part
This online course does not replace the training your employer must give on your own job: site-specific training, and hands-on practice and evaluation where the rule requires them.
What this course does not do
Your employer still sets the hot work rules for your site, decides whether a hot work permit is used, assigns the fire watch and instructs you on your equipment. This course does not qualify you to weld and does not replace hands-on practice with a torch or an extinguisher. Federal OSHA Subpart J sets no number of minutes for the fire watch, which lasts a sufficient period of time (29 CFR 1926.352(e)), and no required training hours. This course covers construction, not general industry welding rules (29 CFR 1910). This is the federal OSHA course. If you work in a state with its own OSHA-approved plan, your state may have different or more stringent rules. The course is online only.
