The gable bracket attaches to the soffit overhang board, also called the ladder board or outrigger, using ten #10 grabber screws, and carries a guardrail post at the gable end.
Gable ends are where framing fall protection usually breaks down, because the wall the rest of the system hangs from has run out. Work outside gable ends is specifically named in California 8 CCR 1716.2 as carrying the 6 foot trigger when installing starter board, roof sheathing and fascia, so this is not an optional corner of the job.
