Your employer's part

This online course does not replace the training your employer must give on your own job: site-specific training, and hands-on practice and evaluation where the rule requires them.

What this course does not do

This course does not make you a qualified rigger or a qualified signal person. Your employer decides who is qualified for each rigging task, and on cranes and derricks in construction a signal person must also pass a practical test (Section 5001.3). Your employer must still train you on the hazards of your job (8 CCR 3203(a)(7)). The course does not teach crane operation, load weights, lift planning or crane assembly, or rigging for structural steel erection, which has its own rules in Section 1710(d). This is the Cal/OSHA course, and federal OSHA's rules differ in several places. The course is online only.
