Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) Annual Refresher, Not Required by Cal/OSHA (Cal/OSHA) Online Training
Couldn't load pickup availability
This online course is a yearly refresher on hydrogen sulfide (H2S) under the Cal/OSHA rules that reach H2S work (8 CCR 5194(h), 5155 Table AC-1, 5144 and, where it applies, 5157), including oil and gas work. No Title 8 section sets a yearly H2S refresher. This course is for workers who already took an initial H2S course and whose employer chooses yearly retraining or whose site requires it.
What you learn
- What the rules say about retraining
- What H2S is and where it is found
- The ppm ladder and why your nose fails
- California's limits and the other numbers
- Your right to know about H2S
- Gas monitors and alarms
- Respirators: what the rule requires
- Emergencies, escape and rescue
- A final lesson listing what changed at your workplace, to review with your supervisor at your company
How it works
- You take the course online, at your own pace, on a phone or a computer.
- The final exam opens after at least 60 minutes of active study in the lessons.
- Each topic lesson ends with practice questions that do not count toward your score.
- The final exam has 25 questions drawn at random. You need 80 percent to pass, and you get 3 attempts.
- When you pass, you get a certificate of completion from M Squared Safety Solutions, Inc. The certificate expires 1 year after it is issued.
- This course is also available in Spanish: Repaso anual de sulfuro de hidrógeno (H2S), no exigido por Cal/OSHA (Cal/OSHA): capacitación en línea.

Your employer's part
This online course does not replace the training your employer must give on your own job: site-specific training, and hands-on practice and evaluation where the rule requires them.
What this course does not do
No section of Title 8 sets a yearly H2S refresher, and this course is not a Cal/OSHA requirement. Some jobs have their own retraining dates under other rules: respirator users, permit space rescue teams, HAZWOPER responders and PSM process workers have retraining dates under Title 8, and offshore work on federal platforms needs annual H2S training under 30 CFR 250.490(g). This course meets none of those. It does not replace an ANSI Z390.1 operator card or offshore BSEE training. It does not replace your yearly respirator fit test and respirator retraining (8 CCR 5144(f)(2) and (k)(5)), SCBA practice, drills or your site's emergency plan, which come from your employer. It does not qualify anyone to wear an SCBA, and it does not include air testing or monitor calibration. This is the Cal/OSHA course, and federal OSHA's rules differ in several places. A federal OSHA version of this course is sold separately. The course is online only.
